These stylised ethnic figures are carved with a sense of humour up most in mind. This is especially true of the figures that combine the ancient tribal look of Africa with late twentieth early twenty first century pursuits, e.g. paragliding, sailbording, skateboarding e.t.c. The visual imagery of this clash of cultures, the ancient transcending the new, embracing innovation and exploiting it creates a charming comedy of caricatures in the carvings. Whereas in many carvings the object is to venerate the subject, these carved ethnic figures display a gentle, cartoon like humour. The angular nature of the figures, the frequently stern carved expressions, apparently manifesting a seriousness of intent not apparent in the pursuit the carving is illustrating.

These african figure stlye, ethnic carvings can be seen along with all of our other carved figures and animals at our shop
